NAIDOC Week Reflections

As we reach the midpoint of NAIDOC Week (6–13 July 2025), it’s the perfect time for every Australian—Indigenous and non-Indigenous alike—to pause, reflect and engage with our shared story.

This year’s theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy,” celebrates 50 years of recognising the resilience and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. For more on events near you, visit naidoc.org.au.

For non-First Nations Australians, NAIDOC Week offers us all a chance to:

  •  Learn more about the rich histories, languages and cultures that pre-date modern Australia.

  •  Reflect on our collective journey of reconciliation—where we’ve come from, and where we’re heading.

  •  Recognise that building an inclusive nation requires active listening, curiosity and respect.

  •  Participate in local events, ceremonies or conversations that uplift First Nations voices and perspectives.

Whether it’s attending a flag-raising, reading a book by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander author, or sharing what you’ve discovered with a colleague, our nation grows stronger when we learn together.
